3 Reasons You Should Be Eating Seasonally

You have probably heard the term "seasonal" when talking about food but what does it actually mean? Seasonal Eating means that you are eating foods that are naturally in harvest or are in their prime or peak season.

With supermarkets nowadays it's so easy to get anything you want when you want it. So why should you be eating seasonally?

1. It Tastes Better

2. It's More Nutritious

3. It's Better For The Environment

1. It Tastes Better

You probably already know from experience that when you eat something freshly caught or picked it has a stronger flavour. Eating seasonally means there is less time between produce being caught and eaten. Therefore, it will be fresher, have a stronger flavour and as such will taste better.

2. It's More Nutritious

Food is at its optimum nutrient density when just harvested or caught. When eating seasonally as the produce is likely to be consumed closer to having been caught or harvested it means that the nutritional value is therefore likely to be higher too.

3. It's Better For The Environment

Eating out of season takes a toll on the environment. This is because there are more resources involved in both the production of food but also in terms of transportation and storage. Transporting food from one side of the world to the other releases greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. When eating seasonally you are likely to be eating more locally and the amount of resources needed to produce, transport, and store is less. Therefore, eating seasonably is better for your carbon footprint and the environment.
